Google AdWords Text Ads
Everyone has seen these ads while searching for something on Google. They show up at the top and bottom of the search results page. They are a good way to advertise your business or product before the organic search. The expanded text ads look like this:
Each ad is targeted to a specific keyword or phrase. A lot of people don’t realize that they have to bid on these ad keywords on a daily basis. It is a good idea to check your bidding regularly to stay one step ahead of your competition. In the beginning, AdWords will ask how you would like to set your bid. The Keyword Planner option will help aid in the bidding process. Another overlooked item is that their competitors (if managing their account correctly) are constantly changing their bids. This is determined by the market value for that term. For example, the key phrase “Weight Loss” may be worth $1.00 on Tuesday, for a first-page placement. Whereas on Friday, that same key phrase is worth $1.50 to your competitors and vice versa. Google will tell you what the expected first-page bid will be.
There are many more factors that play an important role. Such as your “Quality Score” for the keywords leading to an ad. If Google finds that your landing page does not have anything to do with your keywords, then you will have a low-quality score. Your ads will not show as much because Google does not want people landing on irrelevant pages.
Another important factor to think about is “Ad Extensions”. These are the extra links that show on your ads, i.e. phone numbers, page links, reviews, app downloads etc. Utilizing these extensions will maximize your ad “real estate” to help catch the viewer’s attention. Anything that will help grab the attention of prospective clients will help lead them to your site. A site link extension of “meal plans” will help aid in a click if a prospective client searches for “weight loss”.
